About 101 files

The .101 extension is a classic example of a filename conflict where the extension serves as a sequence number or a proprietary container rather than a standardized format.

1. Sysmex Hematology Data:
The most critical use case is a raw data log from Sysmex hematology analyzers (such as the XS-Series or XN-Series). These files store blood count metrics, scattergrams, and instrument flags. The problem is strict proprietary lock-in; these files are binary or structured text intended solely for the Sysmex Information Processing Unit (IPU). You cannot open them directly in Microsoft Excel or standard text editors without seeing garbled data. Hospitals and labs often need to convert these to CSV, XML, or HL7 formats to integrate with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or for offline statistical analysis.

2. Raynen Embroidery Design:
In the textile industry, a .101 file is a machine-specific design format used by Fujian Raynen Technology. These files dictate needle paths and color changes for Raynen control systems. A common issue is interoperability: you cannot load a .101 file onto a Brother, Tajima, or Janome machine. To manufacture the design elsewhere or edit it in software like Wilcom, you must convert the file to a standard stitch format like DST or PES.

3. Sequence & Data Files:
Sometimes, .101 is simply the 101st file in a split archive or a specific data dump, such as bulk mail address lists for Korea Post or statement exports from financial institutions like Bank of America. These are often plain text or CSV-like files disguised with a numeric extension. The solution is to identify the header and convert the content to TXT or PDF for readability.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 101 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 101 converter.
