Convert ZS1 to another file type
To convert ZS1 save states to another format, you need ZSNES or other Game software.
Convert a file to ZS1
To convert other file formats to the "Emulator Save File" file type, you need software like ZSNES or a similar tool.
About ZS1 files
The .ZS1 file is a save state created by ZSNES, a classic Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. This file captures an exact snapshot of the emulator's memory, CPU registers, and hardware state at a specific millisecond of gameplay, saved specifically into 'Slot 1'.
Because it is a raw memory dump, the .ZS1 format is highly proprietary and notoriously brittle. It is generally locked not only to the ZSNES software, but often to the exact version of the emulator used to create it. You cannot simply open a .ZS1 file in modern, highly accurate emulators like Snes9x or bsnes. Attempting to force-load this file elsewhere usually results in a corrupted game state or an immediate software crash.
If you need to move your retro gaming progress to a different emulator, standard online converters will fail because they cannot emulate SNES hardware. The most pragmatic workaround is to load the .ZS1 file inside ZSNES, play the game until you reach an in-game save point, and save normally. This creates a standard SRM (SRAM) battery save file, which is widely compatible across most SNES emulators. We can identify the file's exact binary structure, and if our analysis detects extractable underlying data, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZS1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZS1 file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use ZSNES or similar software from the "Emulator Save State" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to ZS1, try ZSNES or another comparable tool in the "Emulator Save State" category.
The ZS1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZS1 converter.
