About ZGR files

The .ZGR file format is a proprietary BeatSlicer Groove File originally developed by Image-Line. It is primarily used within FL Studio (via the Fruity Slicer plugin) to store the slicing scheme - or marker points - for a specific audio loop. .ZGR files dictate exactly how a beat should be chopped, allowing producers to rearrange grooves dynamically without altering the original audio source.

A major disadvantage of the .ZGR format is the immense confusion it causes among users. Because it is deeply associated with audio production, many assume it contains actual sound. However, a .ZGR file holds absolutely zero audio data; it is strictly a lightweight metadata file. Consequently, traditional audio converters will fail instantly and present cryptic error messages when you attempt to process it. Furthermore, it is a closed format locked into the Image-Line ecosystem, meaning it is virtually useless in other Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Ableton Live or Logic Pro, which rely on standard formats like RX2 or MIDI.

If you need to analyze or repurpose this groove data, standard tools are a dead end. We can identify the file format, inspect the internal marker structure, and show the underlying text or hex data. While you cannot convert a .ZGR directly to an MP3 or WAV, converting it to TXT or JSON allows you to recover the timing metrics and slice points.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ZGR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WAV, JPG and JPEG files.
