About ZEG files
A .ZEG file is a text-based movie subtitle file formatted according to the ZeroG standard. It stores the written dialog of a video alongside precise start and stop timecodes, dictating exactly when each line appears on screen. This format was primarily utilized by specialized captioning tools like Subtitle Workshop for editing and syncing foreign-language translations to video files.
The primary disadvantage of the .ZEG format is its severe lack of compatibility. Modern hardware and software - including smart TVs, web browsers, and popular media players like VLC - do not natively support ZeroG subtitles. If you attempt to load a .ZEG file alongside an MP4 or MKV movie, the captions will simply fail to display. It is an obscure, effectively dead format for end-users who just want to watch a film.
Because it is so isolated, you must convert the .ZEG file into a universally recognized format, with SRT (SubRip) or VTT (WebVTT) being the absolute best targets. Converting to these formats retains your critical timecodes without losing synchronization. Standard online converters frequently fail to process .ZEG files because they lack the specific parser required for ZeroG's proprietary timecode structure.
This is where our platform excels. Even if the extension is unrecognized by other tools, our analysis detects the embedded text, allowing you to salvage the captions and transition them to a highly supported format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZEG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
