About YTF files
A .YTF file is typically a Google Picasa Font Cache file, automatically generated by the now-discontinued photo management software to store font configurations, sizes, and weights. In the gaming community, the exact same extension is used as a proprietary texture and 3D model asset in Grand Theft Auto V.
For Picasa files, the original software was Google Picasa. For gaming assets, modders rely on community tools like OpenIV or CodeWalker to interact with the proprietary game engine.
The main disadvantage of the .YTF format is its highly specialized, proprietary nature. Whether it is a legacy cache file from an obsolete application or a locked game asset, these files are completely unsupported by modern web browsers, standard text editors, or image viewers. Users often try to convert them to recover the embedded textures, text, or 3D meshes because keeping them in their native format provides zero utility outside of their specific parent software.
If you are working with GTA assets, the best target formats are OBJ or FBX for 3D meshes, and DDS or PNG for textures, though complex material properties are often lost in translation. For Picasa cache files, direct conversion to a standard font format like TTF or OTF is virtually impossible because the file only stores rendering data, not full vector outlines.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because the encoding is closed and relies on the original software engine to read the data correctly. Standard online converters fail because they do not recognize the proprietary caching mechanism. Our system will inspect the binary structure and show any extracted human-readable text or embedded content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your YTF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert YTF file to TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, EOT, SVG, BDF, PCF, FNT, FON, PFM or AFM, you can use Google Picasa or similar software from the "Font Cache Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert UFO, WOFF, PFB, GXF, AFM, F3F, SFD, WOFF2, PSF, TTF, TXF or OTF files to YTF, try Google Picasa or another comparable tool in the "Font Cache Data Storage" category.
The YTF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our YTF converter.
