The .YKA file extension represents a Yenka Model File, a proprietary data format developed by Crocodile Clips Ltd. It is primarily used in educational environments to store interactive 2D and 3D simulations for mathematics, computing, electronics, and science lessons. You can open and interact with these files natively using the official Yenka desktop application. The main disadvantage of the .YKA format is its rigid, closed ecosystem. It requires a specific software installation to execute, severely limiting sharing and accessibility for users without the program. Because the files hold dynamic simulation instructions - such as logic gate behaviors, chemical reactions, or physical mechanics - standard document viewers cannot interpret them. Converting a .YKA file to a universal format is difficult because interactivity is inherently lost. The most practical solution is to export or print static views of the model to PDF documents or capture them as JPG or PNG image files directly from within the Yenka software.
