The .YAM file extension is a legacy data format created by Yahoo! Seller's Manager, a discontinued desktop application used to manage listings for Yahoo! Auctions. These files functioned as local databases, storing seller information, item categories, pricing, and descriptions. This allowed sellers to build and edit their auction inventory offline before executing a batch upload.
Because Yahoo! has retired the Seller's Manager software and shut down its auction platform in most global markets, opening these files natively is practically impossible. The proprietary nature of the .YAM format means that users trying to recover historical sales data face a major hurdle; standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel cannot parse the data.
To access the information inside, you need to extract and convert the .YAM file to a standard format like CSV, JSON, or TXT. While the original database structure and strict category mappings will be lost, the raw text - such as item titles and descriptions - can often be salvaged.
