A .xyzi file is a 3D point cloud data file that stores exact spatial coordinates (X, Y, Z) alongside a reflection intensity value (I) for each scanned point. It is primarily generated by hardware like Wenglor weCat3D laser profile sensors or exported from processing software like Topcon Magnet Collage.
These files present significant challenges for average users. Point clouds are massive, easily exceeding gigabytes of data, making them impossible to share via standard email. Because .xyzi is highly specialized, it requires expensive engineering software to open. The format is completely unsupported by standard web browsers or standard 3D design tools.
To make this scan data usable in typical CAD or 3D modeling workflows, you must convert the .xyzi file into universal point cloud formats like LAS, LAZ, or PLY, or surface mesh formats like OBJ. Note that converting to basic XYZ or OBJ may strip the intensity (I) data, leaving only the geometric shape.
Because .xyzi can be a closed, proprietary binary format or an extremely dense text file, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly render the full 3D environment.
