About XYS files

The .XYS file format is a plain text script used exclusively by XYplorer, an advanced file manager for Windows. These scripts contain a sequence of commands to automate complex file management tasks, batch renaming, or custom interface modifications. Because they are plain text, they can be opened in any code editor like Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code.

Despite their utility for power users, .XYS files suffer from severe vendor lock-in. The scripting language is proprietary to XYplorer. You cannot execute an .XYS script natively in Windows PowerShell, Bash, or alternative file managers like Directory Opus. If you migrate away from XYplorer or share the script with a Mac or Linux user, the file becomes useless as executable code. Furthermore, browsers and standard operating systems do not recognize the extension, making quick previews impossible without the host software.

To share the script logic, document it, or upload it to code repositories, you should convert the file to TXT, MD (Markdown), or PDF. While you will lose the ability to execute the script in XYplorer, the underlying text and logic remain perfectly intact for reading.

Because the commands are unique to this specific software, standard online converters cannot translate .XYS logic into Python or Bash automatically.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XYS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NCS, ZTS and APPLESCRIPT files.
