About XS3 files

An .XS3 file is a legacy spreadsheet file created by Xess, an extensible X-Windows real-time spreadsheet designed for Linux, UNIX, VMS, and Windows NT. Developed by Applied Information Systems, Inc. (AIS), Xess was widely used in scientific and engineering environments for managing complex data. The biggest drawback is that the Xess software is discontinued and virtually impossible to run on modern Windows or macOS systems. Sharing an .XS3 file today means the recipient will not be able to open it, as standard applications like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets do not support the format natively. You should convert .XS3 files to standard formats like CSV for raw data extraction, TXT for text parsing, or PDF for document archiving. Since Xess files are technically encoded text files, plain text conversion retains the core data, though formulas and macros (like xsBasic scripts) will be lost. Because it is a discontinued and specialized format, standard online converters often fail to process it.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XS3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XS4, XS5 and WG2 files.
