About XRY files

The .XRY file format is a proprietary data container used exclusively for mobile forensics. It stores physical or logical data extractions from mobile devices, including SMS, call logs, images, and app data. These files are generated by MSAB XRY, a digital forensics tool used by law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Users often need to convert .XRY files because they are highly restrictive. You cannot open them with standard text editors or database viewers. They require expensive, licensed software to access, which makes sharing evidence with external legal teams extremely difficult. The files are also notoriously massive, often reaching dozens of gigabytes for a single smartphone dump. To share this data, the best target formats are PDF for printed court reports, XML for programmatic ingestion, or HTML for interactive viewing. However, exporting to these formats usually strips the cryptographic hash validation of the original file. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert online. It is a closed, secure, and often encrypted proprietary container designed specifically to prevent tampering. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the proprietary decryption keys and parsing logic. Often, only the original MSAB software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
