An .XRB file is an XMind Resource Bundle used by the XMind mind mapping and brainstorming software. These files serve as package containers used to distribute custom themes, clip art, custom markers, and mind map templates. Teams and educators share .XRB files to ensure consistent visual styling across different diagrams. Users normally import these bundles directly through the XMind Resource Manager.
The primary disadvantage of the .XRB format is strict vendor lock-in. It is a proprietary package format tied exclusively to the XMind ecosystem. If a user does not have an active installation of XMind - which often requires a paid subscription for premium features - they cannot natively open or view the resources inside the file. This creates a significant barrier when users simply need a specific PNG icon or SVG graphic trapped inside the bundle.
Converting an .XRB file directly into a document format like PDF or DOCX is impossible because it is a collection of assets, not a linear document. The most realistic conversion strategy is extraction. Because many proprietary bundles function structurally as renamed archive files, the best target format is a standard ZIP file. Extracting the archive allows users to pull out the raw PNG images, SVG vectors, and XML configuration files. Note that extracted assets will lose their specific integration logic and behavior within the XMind app.
