.XPX files primarily function as proprietary data containers. The majority serve as Role-Playing Game data files utilized by The Simple Role-Playing Engine or mapping software like Campaign Cartographer 3. A secondary usage is as government form data files generated by Scorpion Expediter software. These files are highly restrictive. Because .XPX is a closed, proprietary format, it is not supported by standard web browsers or modern operating systems out of the box. Users are often locked into relying on the original software to view the contents, which is problematic when sharing maps or government forms with clients who lack the required software licenses.
