About XPX files

The .XPX file extension serves two distinct, niche communities, making it a frequent source of confusion. Primarily, it is a Role-Playing Game (RPG) data file associated with The Simple Role-Playing Engine and Campaign Cartographer 3. In this context, the file stores campaign metadata, map coordinates, or character stats. These files are typically binary or proprietary text formats, meaning they cannot be opened by standard image viewers or text editors. A secondary but significant use (approx. 29%) is as a Government form data file created by Scorpion Expediter software. These files contain structured database records used for compliance and trucking expediting forms.

Users commonly struggle with issues because .XPX files are frequently mistaken for Microsoft's XPS (XML Paper Specification) format due to the similar naming. However, renaming the extension to .XPS will not work. Because .XPX files are deeply tied to the logic of their parent software, they are not intended for direct editing. To make the content usable, you typically need to convert them. For RPG maps, the goal is usually conversion to PNG or JPG for sharing. For Scorpion forms, the standard workflow is converting to PDF for archiving. Without the original software, your best option is often a hex viewer to extract raw text or a specialized conversion utility.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XPX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OXPS files.
