About XMPZ files

The .XMPZ file extension represents a Miradi XML Project File. Developed by Benetech in partnership with the Conservation Measures Partnership (CMP), this specialized data file is used to manage environmental conservation projects. Environmentalists use these files to store structured data regarding ecological targets, conservation threats, and monitoring indicators.

The primary disadvantage of the .XMPZ format is its rigid reliance on a proprietary software ecosystem. Because the data uses a complex XML structure tailored to the Miradi software, you cannot simply open the file to view a human-readable report. This creates a massive bottleneck when trying to share project plans with donors, stakeholders, or team members who do not have the specific desktop application installed. Standard web browsers and office suites cannot interpret the conservation frameworks saved inside the file.

To make this data accessible, users need to convert the .XMPZ file into universally readable formats. Target formats like XML or TXT allow anyone to view the raw structured code. For practical sharing, extracting the data to a CSV spreadsheet or printing to a PDF is the best workaround. However, converting raw XML data to standard formats means you will lose the interactive project management charts, step-by-step wizard logic, and visual diagrams generated by the native software.

Converting this file format is frustrating because typical online converters cannot read Miradi's unique schema. Usually, only the original software can correctly export the data into a polished donor report. Since our analysis can detect the underlying XML framework, you can inspect the file and often extract the raw text content, saving you from complete data lock-in.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XMPZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The XMPZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XMPZ converter.
