About XBF files

XBF files are primarily XAML Binary files, a proprietary compiled format used by Microsoft for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and WinUI applications. Unlike standard XAML files which are human-readable XML text, .XBF files are binary representations optimized for rapid loading by the Windows Runtime. While efficient for application performance, this binary nature presents significant hurdles for developers and modders: you cannot open them in a text editor to inspect code, they are locked to specific Windows SDK versions, and they often prevent easy access to embedded UI assets.

To regain access to the underlying logic or design, users typically need to convert .XBF back to XAML (for editing in Visual Studio) or XML (for text inspection). In cases where the file is a GUIX Binary Font (a secondary use by Eclipse ThreadX / Express Logic), converting to standard font formats like TTF or OTF is necessary to use the typography outside of embedded systems. For the rare XCAF 3D model variant, users should convert to STEP or STL for compatibility with modern CAD tools.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XBF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FBX, VCPROJ, USER and SETS files.

The XBF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XBF converter.
