The .WRM file extension is a source of frequent confusion because it serves two completely different, proprietary functions. Primarily, it is a Woorm code-behind report file used by Microarea S.p.A. (now Zucchetti) within their Mago.net and Mago4 ERP systems. These files contain UTF-8 encoded source code that defines how business reports are generated and formatted. Because they are raw code, they cannot be opened by standard office software like Microsoft Word without scrambling the formatting.
Alternatively, your file might be a WiNRADiO Memory File, used by WiNRADiO receivers to store radio frequency lists and station data. These are binary data files that appear as gibberish if opened in a text editor. A third common scenario is that the file is actually a renamed RealMedia (.RM) or Windows Media (.WMV) video file with a typo in the extension. Users often struggle to open these files because they are either locked into a specific legacy ERP environment or require niche radio hardware software.
For Woorm reports, the best approach is to convert them to PDF for archiving or TXT for code review. For WiNRADiO files, converting to CSV allows you to view frequency data in a spreadsheet. If you suspect a video file typo, renaming the extension or converting to MP4 is the only way to make it playable on modern devices.
