About WNCRY files

The .wncry file extension is applied to files encrypted by the infamous WannaCry ransomware, also known as WanaCrypt0r 2.0. This is not a standard file format, but rather a locked container created by malicious software to extort money from victims. The ransomware targets common data files like .DOCX, .JPG, and .PDF, encrypting their contents using AES-128 encryption, and then encrypts the AES key using RSA-2048 encryption. Because of this dual-layer cryptography, users cannot simply rename or convert the file back to its original format. Standard conversion tools fundamentally fail because they cannot reverse military-grade encryption without the unique private key held by the attackers. You need specialized decryption tools, such as Wanakiwi, which only work under highly specific technical conditions (e.g., the computer was not rebooted after infection). This format is completely closed and proprietary to the malware authors.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WNCRY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
