A .wlt file serves multiple distinct purposes depending on the software that created it. Most frequently, it acts as an encrypted database for Ilium Software eWallet, securely storing passwords, credit card info, and personal data. It is also used as a wallet backup for the NEM cryptocurrency (via the NEM Nano Wallet), as a window layout configuration file in the Unity game engine, and occasionally as a locked dashcam video file by hardware like Wolfbox.
The major disadvantage of the .wlt format is its heavily fragmented and proprietary nature.
