Convert a file to WID
To convert other file formats to the "BI Report Document" file type, you need software like SAP BusinessObjects or a similar tool.
About WID files
A .WID file is most commonly a Web Intelligence Document created by SAP BusinessObjects. These files act as containers for business intelligence reports, storing report layouts, formulas, and sometimes cached data retrieved from corporate databases. The primary frustration with .WID files is their strict dependency on the SAP ecosystem; they are proprietary binary files that cannot be opened by standard text editors, web browsers, or Microsoft Office. Users often encounter these files when a report is exported incorrectly (as the source file rather than the output) or when trying to archive legacy BI data. Because the file often contains dynamic query definitions rather than just static data, opening a .WID file without a connection to the original CMS repository can result in empty or broken reports.
For practical use outside the SAP environment, the content needs to be converted. The gold standard for data portability is converting .WID to XLSX (Excel) or CSV to allow for further analysis in spreadsheet software. For presentation and archiving, converting to PDF preserves the visual layout of charts and tables. In rare cases, a .WID file might be a Windows Installer Dialog file used by developers with the WiX Toolset or older installation builders, which is a completely different format requiring text-based or hex editing tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WID file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WID file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use SAP BusinessObjects or similar software from the "Business Intelligence Reporting" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to WID, try SAP BusinessObjects or another comparable tool in the "Business Intelligence Reporting" category.
The WID Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WID converter.
