About VZM files
A .VZM file is a mobile backup archive created by the Verizon Messages (Message+) application. These files contain a user's SMS and MMS history, including contact numbers, timestamps, and message content, structured in an XML format.
A major friction point for users is that .VZM files are proprietary to the Verizon ecosystem. With Verizon discontinuing the Message+ app, many users are left with backup files they cannot restore to new devices or open on their computers. Native text editors like Microsoft Notepad display the raw XML tags, making the conversation flow difficult to read. Furthermore, standard backup software cannot parse these proprietary containers.
To preserve these conversations for legal or personal reasons, the most practical solution is converting the .VZM file to PDF for a printable, human-readable layout. For users needing to sort or analyze message data, converting to CSV or XLSX is recommended. Intermediate users can often view the raw data by renaming the file extension from .VZM to XML and opening it in a web browser like Google Chrome, though this does not provide a clean 'chat view' experience.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VZM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VZM file to PDF, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL or PLY, you can use Verizon Message+ or similar software from the "Mobile SMS Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to VZM, try Verizon Message+ or another comparable tool in the "Mobile SMS Backup" category.
The VZM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VZM converter.
