About VSU files

A .VSU file is a proprietary Visio Custom User Interface settings file created by older versions of Microsoft Visio. It stores personalized toolbar, menu, and workspace layouts for users. Because it is a settings file and not a diagram file, it does not contain shapes, text, or flowcharts. This is a common source of frustration, as users often receive a .VSU file expecting a visual diagram, only to realize the format is completely proprietary and useless without the exact matching version of Visio. It lacks cross-platform compatibility, requires an expensive software subscription to load natively, and cannot be opened by web browsers or standard text editors. You cannot natively convert a .VSU to a PDF or JPG because there is no visual drawing to export. If you need to salvage data from one, extracting the underlying XML or plain text are your best target formats. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VSU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
