Convert a file to VSK

To convert other file formats to the "Keybinding Scheme / Model" file type, you need software like Microsoft Visual Studio or a similar tool.

About VSK files

The .VSK file primarily functions as a Visual Studio Keybinding Scheme used to map keyboard shortcuts, or as an XML-based Kinematic Subject Model utilized by Vicon Nexus for motion capture data. A smaller subset of these files acts as Property Assessment Sketch files for government software.

Opening these files requires specific software. Keybinding configurations demand Microsoft Visual Studio, while kinematic skeleton models require Vicon Nexus to visualize the 3D marker data.

The main disadvantage of the .VSK format is severe vendor lock-in. A keybinding file is essentially useless outside of the Visual Studio IDE, and motion capture models require expensive, highly specialized desktop applications to interpret. If you need to document your team's custom shortcuts in a wiki, or parse kinematic marker tracking points for an external animation pipeline, the native format creates a significant workflow bottleneck.

Converting .VSK files to standard text-based formats like XML, JSON, or TXT is highly recommended. You will lose direct IDE import compatibility or 3D visual rendering, but you gain immediate readability, version control support, and cross-platform data extraction capabilities.

Because these files are proprietary schemas or specialized application settings, standard online document converters will fail to process them. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Since many .VSK files are structurally based on XML text, convert.guru can inspect the embedded content, extract the raw configuration parameters, and help you migrate the data safely.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VSK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SUO, MAP and ASP files.

The VSK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VSK converter.
