About VRS files
The .VRS file extension encompasses several complex file types, primarily acting as Vision Recording files for Meta Project Aria or Virtual Reality Scene panoramas for architecture software like Enscape and Coohom. Additionally, the extension is used for VitalSource Bookshelf digital textbook metadata, XML-based Bible verse lists, and legacy Microsoft Jet Engine databases.
The primary disadvantage of the .VRS format is its highly proprietary and fragmented nature. Project Aria files are massive, complex multi-stream sensor containers requiring specialized C++ or Python APIs to decode. VitalSource metadata files are strictly locked behind Digital Rights Management (DRM) to prevent unauthorized textbook distribution. Enscape VR scenes are often isolated files that require the original software or a dedicated cloud viewer to function, making them difficult to share natively on standard web browsers.
The best conversion targets depend entirely on the file's internal structure. For VR panoramic renders, converting to JPG or PNG is ideal, as many of these files are simply standard JFIF images with a changed extension. For sensor datasets and metadata, exporting to JSON, CSV, or XML allows the data to be analyzed in standard spreadsheet tools. Users frequently want to convert textbook files to PDF, but this usually fails due to DRM restrictions.
Because .VRS refers to multiple closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters fail to process them and usually return an error. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the raw data. Fortunately, convert.guru offers a realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format - like an embedded JFIF image, plain XML text, or JetDB tables - viewing and conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VRS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VRS file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Project Aria Tools or similar software from the "XR Sensor Data & VR" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to VRS, try Project Aria Tools or another comparable tool in the "XR Sensor Data & VR" category.
The VRS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VRS converter.
