About VRPHOTO files
A .VRPHOTO file is a proprietary VR Photo Image format generated by the VR Photo iOS app, developed by Thomas Möller. These files are used to capture, store, and display rotatable, interactive views of real-world objects. Instead of a flat 2D picture, a .VRPHOTO file packages multiple image frames together, allowing users to swipe and spin the object on their screen. To view them natively, you must install the specific VR Photo LT viewer application on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
The primary disadvantage of the .VRPHOTO format is its severe lack of cross-platform compatibility. Because it is a closed, proprietary wrapper, these files are completely unrecognized by Windows PCs, Android devices, and standard web browsers. This creates massive friction when trying to share a 3D product spin or interactive object with clients or friends, as they will typically encounter an 'unsupported format' error unless they own an Apple device and are willing to download a niche third-party app.
To make the content usable elsewhere, you need to convert or extract the data into standard formats. The best conversion targets are JPG or PNG image sequences, which represent the individual frames of the rotation, or a standard MP4 video file that automatically spins the object. Converting to standard images ensures universal compatibility, though the native touch-to-spin interactivity of the file will be lost.
Because the .VRPHOTO format is heavily guarded and undocumented, standard online image converters simply fail to process it. They do not know how to unpack the proprietary container to find the actual image data. If our analysis engine detects supported embedded image frames inside the wrapper, we can often extract the raw files, rescuing your visual data without requiring the original iOS app.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VRPHOTO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The VRPHOTO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VRPHOTO converter.
