About VNI files

A .VNI file is a proprietary settings container specifically used by Dell Webcam Central, a legacy video capture utility bundled with older Dell computers. Almost always named App.vni, this configuration file stores software preferences, video chatting effects, plugin paths, and bit rate recording settings in plain text.

While the data inside is stored as standard text, the .VNI format itself is a closed, proprietary extension. This creates a major disadvantage for users upgrading to modern webcam applications like OBS Studio: standard video tools cannot read, import, or understand .VNI configurations. The format locks your preferences into obsolete software.

If you need to recover the raw configuration data, the best solution is to convert or rename the file to standard text formats like TXT, JSON, or XML. Standard online converters usually fail to process .VNI files because they do not recognize the rare extension.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VNI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
