About VMP1 files

A .vmp1 file is typically an extracted section from a Windows Portable Executable (PE) file that has been obfuscated using VMProtect. VMProtect is a commercial software protection and packing tool designed to deter reverse engineering and software cracking. It achieves this by compressing original code and executing it on a custom, virtualized CPU architecture. When an executable is packed, its standard sections (such as text or data) are replaced with custom sections like .vmp0, .vmp1, and .vmp2. Reverse engineers and malware analysts often dump these sections to disk as standalone .vmp1 files during static analysis of malware or protected software.

Converting a .vmp1 file to standard formats is extremely challenging because the contents are deliberately encrypted and highly randomized. Standard decompilers and online converters cannot process it since the data consists of proprietary virtual bytecode rather than native x86/x64 assembly instructions. Users usually attempt to "unpack" or deobfuscate the file back into readable ASM or EXE formats to understand its behavior.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VMP1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The VMP1 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VMP1 converter.
