About VMDF files

The .vmdf format is primarily a Personal Secure Drive container created by MyWinLocker, a security suite from Egis Technology (often pre-installed on Acer and ASUS laptops as part of the BioExcess biometric software). These files act as encrypted "virtual vaults" that hide sensitive documents, photos, and videos from the main file system.

The central problem with .vmdf files is proprietary lock-in and software obsolescence.
