Convert VGI to another file type
To convert VGI Data headers to another format, you need VGSTUDIO MAX or other 3D software.
Convert a file to VGI
To convert other file formats to the "Volume Data Header" file type, you need software like VGSTUDIO MAX or a similar tool.
About VGI files
A .VGI file is primarily a Volumetric Data Header File developed by Volume Graphics. It stores metadata, dimensions, and structural properties for a corresponding VOL raw volume data file, typically generated by industrial CT scanners. You can open these files using VGSTUDIO MAX or myVGL, the dedicated viewers provided by Volume Graphics GmbH. Users often need to convert .VGI files because they are highly specialized, proprietary, and require expensive software to view. Furthermore, a .VGI file is practically useless without its accompanying multi-gigabyte raw data file. If you need to share the actual 3D volume, the best target formats are STL, OBJ, or PLY meshes for standard CAD software. Keep in mind that converting voxel-based volumetric data into surface meshes results in the loss of internal density information. Because .VGI is a closed, proprietary header format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our analysis detects supported underlying formats, allowing viewing or conversion when text or standard embedded data is present.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VGI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert VGI file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use VGSTUDIO MAX or similar software from the "Volumetric Data Metadata Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to VGI, try VGSTUDIO MAX or another comparable tool in the "Volumetric Data Metadata Storage" category.
The VGI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VGI converter.
