About VCX files
The .VCX file extension is primarily associated with Visual Class Libraries generated by Microsoft Visual FoxPro, a discontinued object-oriented database programming environment. These files function as containers for reusable code objects - such as form definitions, custom buttons, and data controls. Although they act as source code storage, they are technically binary database tables (using the DBF structure) rather than plain text files. This proprietary architecture presents a significant barrier for modern developers: you cannot simply open a .VCX file in Visual Studio Code or Notepad++ to read the logic. Furthermore, because Microsoft ended support for FoxPro in 2007, relying on the original IDE for access is increasingly risky and impractical. For migration or archival purposes, the best approach is often converting the file to a standard DBF to inspect the raw metadata in Microsoft Excel, or extracting the content to text-based PRG files or XML for porting to modern languages like C# or Python. In the automotive sector, this extension might alternatively refer to an XML-based vehicle coding data file used by DTS Monaco for Mercedes-Benz ECU diagnostics.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VCX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VCX file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use Microsoft Visual FoxPro or similar software from the "Visual Class Library Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to VCX, try Microsoft Visual FoxPro or another comparable tool in the "Visual Class Library Storage" category.
The VCX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VCX converter.
