The .VAF file extension serves two primary, distinct purposes: proprietary Bink 2 Video animation files used by RAD Game Tools and Barco, and scientific data files generated by Viscotek and Zetasizer Nano chromatography instruments from Malvern Panalytical. Both applications of the .VAF format share a common disadvantage: they are highly specialized, closed, and proprietary. As video files, they lack native support in standard media players or web browsers, requiring specific game engines or developer tools for playback. As scientific data files, they lock users into expensive laboratory software ecosystems, requiring active licenses just to view basic experimental results. Because these formats are heavily restricted, standard online converters routinely fail to process them. Often, only the original proprietary software can properly read or export the data. For video files, exporting via the original engine to AVI or MP4 is the optimal target, though you may lose multi-track interactive audio layers. For scientific data, converting to CSV or TXT is best for analysis in Microsoft Excel.
