About V2M files

The .V2M extension is shared between two completely different formats, creating significant confusion.

1. Farbrausch V2 Synthesizer Module (Most Common): These are compact audio files created by the German demogroup Farbrausch. Unlike standard MP3s, a .V2M file contains instructions for a specific software synthesizer (the V2) to generate audio in real-time. This allows high-quality music to fit into just a few kilobytes - vital for 64k intros and demos. The Problem: Because they are procedural instructions rather than recorded waveforms, standard players like Windows Media Player or iTunes cannot play them. You need specialized tools like XMPlay with the v2m-plugin to listen to them. The Solution: For universal playback, convert these modules to MP3 or WAV formats.

2. Data Becker Business Card File: These are project files from the discontinued "Visitenkarten-Druckerei" software by Data Becker. The Problem: Data Becker ceased operations in 2014, leaving these proprietary files orphaned. They often contain text, vector layouts, and image assets for business cards that can no longer be opened if you lose the original installation CD. The Solution: Convert these legacy designs to PDF (for printing) or JPG/PNG (for viewing) to rescue your data.
