About V2M files

A .v2m file primarily functions as a V2 Synthesizer music module created by the Farbrausch demogroup. These files are compact, procedurally generated audio tracker modules used in the PC demoscene to synthesize music in real-time. A secondary, but common, use for the .v2m extension is a proprietary business card data file generated by Data Becker Visitenkarten-Druckerei software.

The .v2m format presents significant challenges for modern users. The Farbrausch V2 synthesizer is an aging, specialized 32-bit Windows VST plugin. Playing these files natively requires the original plugin or specific legacy Winamp plugins, neither of which are supported by web browsers, mobile devices, or standard media players. Meanwhile, the Data Becker format is an obsolete, closed database from a company that shut down in 2014. Obtaining the software and running it on modern 64-bit operating systems is incredibly difficult, often requiring a virtual machine.

To ensure long-term accessibility, you need to convert these files. Audio modules should be recorded and rendered out to standard WAV or MP3 files, though this eliminates the microscopic file-size advantage of the original procedural module. Business card files must be printed to PDF or exported to JPG to allow easy sharing and professional printing.

Because both variations of the .v2m file rely on proprietary engines - either a complex mathematical synthesizer or a dead software's layout engine - standard online converters consistently fail. They cannot synthesize the audio instructions or render the exact layout coordinates. However, you can drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the exact format, inspect the binary data, and extract readable text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure or embedded format, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your V2M file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted V2A, V2Z and V2F files.
