About USEQ files

The .USEQ file is a USeq Genome Data File. Bioinformatics researchers use it to store high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data. The format was developed at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. To open and analyze these files, scientists typically use the Java-based USeq software package or the Integrated Genome Browser (IGB).

You need to convert .USEQ files because the format is highly specialized and niche. It is a compressed binary format. Standard text editors cannot read it. It is not supported by standard web browsers or regular data analysis tools. It requires a specialized Java environment and command-line knowledge to extract the data.

We recommend converting .USEQ to widely accepted genomic track formats. Target formats include BED for genomic annotations, WIG for continuous track data, or CSV for tabular data analysis in standard spreadsheet software. Converting to text-based formats increases compatibility but will significantly increase the total file size.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because it uses complex binary structures optimized for local bioinformatics pipelines. Standard online document converters will fail completely. Often, only the original USeq Java tools can properly read or export the genomic data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your USEQ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The USEQ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our USEQ converter.
