About UHS files

A .UHS file is most frequently associated with the Universal Hint System, a format designed to provide progressive game walkthroughs. Unlike standard text guides (TXT) or PDFs (PDF), these files store hints in a structured database that hides spoilers until the user explicitly chooses to reveal them. While excellent for puzzle-heavy adventure games, the format is proprietary and requires the specific UHS Reader to view the content. This creates friction for users on modern mobile devices or operating systems where the legacy reader software may be unsupported or cumbersome to install. Users often seek to convert these files to HTML or PDF to archive the guides or view them on tablets without specialized apps, accepting that they will lose the interactive "spoiler-hiding" functionality.

Alternatively, in engineering contexts, a .UHS file may be a Gauge History Data file generated by Ansys Autodyn. These files contain time-history data from simulation gauge points (pressure, velocity, stress). Engineers frequently need to extract this proprietary binary data into standard formats like CSV or XLSX to perform custom analysis in Microsoft Excel or MATLAB.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UHS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The UHS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UHS converter.
