About U3P files
A .u3p file is a discontinued application package used by the U3 Smart Drive platform, a legacy technology developed by SanDisk and M-Systems that allowed users to run portable applications directly from a USB flash drive. These files function as containers that hold the executable software (in a host folder), configuration data (in a manifest folder), and user documents. Since the U3 platform reached its End-of-Life (EOL) in 2010 and modern versions of Windows (10/11) block the "CD-ROM emulation" required to auto-launch the U3 Launchpad, users often find themselves locked out of these files.
Practically, a .u3p file is simply a standard ZIP archive with a different extension. You do not need the obsolete U3 Launchpad software to access the contents. By renaming the extension from .u3p to zip, you can open the file with any standard archiver like 7-Zip or WinRAR. For data recovery, the most critical content is usually found in the device\data or data subdirectories, while the application itself resides in host. Converting to ZIP is the only practical workflow to recover data from these legacy containers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your U3P file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PLMA, COMMON and OC_ files.

The U3P Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our U3P converter.
