About TT20 files

The .TT20 file is a proprietary data container used to store personal and financial information for the 2020 Canadian tax year. It is generated by TurboTax Canada to calculate tax obligations, store reference codes, and prepare submissions for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Users typically interact with these files when saving their progress or backing up their annual tax returns.

To natively open a .TT20 file, you must use the 2020 desktop edition of TurboTax.

Users often need to convert this file because the .TT20 format is highly restrictive. It is proprietary, heavily structured, and locked to a specific geographic region and tax year. You cannot open a .TT20 file in standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or view it in a web browser. Furthermore, maintaining access to legacy tax software just to read an old tax return is a major burden for long-term archiving.

The best conversion target for a .TT20 file is a PDF document. A PDF preserves the exact visual layout of your tax forms for permanent, easily accessible record-keeping. Advanced users might attempt to extract raw text to CSV or TXT, but doing so strips away the structured tax calculations and formatting, leaving only the raw numerical data.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary system. Often, only the original Intuit software can properly read or export the data to prevent unauthorized modifications. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TT20 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
