A .TKC file most commonly contains historical trading tick data used by the MetaTrader 5 platform, developed by MetaQuotes Software Corp. Algorithmic traders use this format to store millions of precise price quotes (bids and asks) for backtesting trading robots (Expert Advisors). A secondary, less common use of the .TKC extension is for facial tracking configuration settings in VTuber software like VSeeFace and VTube Studio.
If you have a MetaTrader .TKC file, you are dealing with a heavily compressed, proprietary binary format. The main disadvantage of this format is vendor lock-in. MetaQuotes designed .TKC files to be processed exclusively by the MetaTrader engine. Because the file is closed-source and binary, you cannot natively open it in web browsers, data analysis tools like Python (Pandas), or spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. It restricts you from conducting independent, third-party quantitative analysis unless you use the original software to export the data.
