About TINI files
The .TINI file format is a Chrome OS Crostini Backup file. Google designed this format specifically for Chromebook users to back up and restore their Linux (Beta) containers. The internal structure is essentially a compressed archive containing the entire filesystem of the Linux virtual machine.
This format is highly proprietary in its intended use. It is strictly tied to the Chrome OS ecosystem, making it essentially useless on a standard Windows or macOS machine out of the box. Users who transfer a .TINI file to another operating system face a major roadblock: standard file managers and archive utilities often fail to recognize the extension, effectively locking you out of your own Linux files.
To access your data, you must convert or extract the .TINI file into universal archive formats like TAR, GZ, or ZIP. Converting the entire virtual machine state into a standard document is impossible, but extracting the user files inside is highly practical.
Because this file is a closed, system-specific archive, standard online converters usually fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like a standard gzip stream, viewing the internal contents or extracting the files may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TINI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The TINI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TINI converter.
