A .tilt file is a 3D virtual reality sketch created by Google Tilt Brush or its open-source successor, Open Brush. It stores 3D brush strokes, textures, and spatial data generated in a VR environment.
This format is highly proprietary and restrictive. You cannot open a .tilt file directly in web browsers or standard 3D modeling tools like Blender without specialized plugins. The files rely entirely on specific VR painting engines to render unique light, neon, and particle brush effects correctly.
To use these VR sketches in game engines or traditional 3D software, you must convert the .tilt file to standard 3D formats like GLB, FBX, or OBJ. Note that converting to these formats often results in a loss of dynamic particle effects, because standard 3D formats do not natively support custom Tilt Brush shaders.
Because this file stores vector stroke data and proprietary shaders rather than standard 3D polygons, it is exceptionally difficult to convert. Usually, only the original VR software can properly read or export the geometric data. We can inspect the file's internal ZIP-like structure and extract embedded content, such as the sketch thumbnail. If our analysis detects supported embedded media, viewing or partial extraction may still be possible.
