Extract text from TE files

The .TE extension is primarily associated with TextEase, a desktop publishing and word processing application originally developed by Softease Limited (now part of Lightbox Education). These files are widely used in educational settings, particularly in the UK, to combine text, images, and audio into interactive documents.
The Problem: TextEase uses a proprietary binary format that creates significant hurdles for modern users.
1. Vendor Lock-in: You typically cannot open these files without a licensed copy of TextEase Studio or TextEase CT, software that is increasingly rare and often incompatible with Windows 11 or macOS.
2. Inaccessibility: Standard office suites like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice cannot natively import or render .TE layouts.
3. Legacy Data: Schools and institutions often find themselves with archives of .TE materials that are effectively "frozen" in this obsolete format.

For Archiving and Viewing, converting .TE to PDF is the most reliable workflow, as it preserves the visual layout, fonts, and image placement without requiring the original software. For Content Recovery, converting to DOCX or RTF allows you to salvage the text, though you may lose complex formatting.
Secondary Use (TeX):
In scientific and academic contexts, a .TE file may be a truncated or non-standard extension for a TeX or LaTeX source file (normally TEX). These are plain text files containing typesetting code. They are not "viewable" documents until compiled. To view these, rename them to TXT to edit the code, or convert them to PDF using a LaTeX engine to see the rendered formulas and layout.
