About TDDD files

A .tddd file is a Three-Dimensional Data Description file originally developed by Impulse, Inc. for its classic Amiga and PC 3D rendering software, such as Turbo Silver and Imagine 3D. It stores complex 3D object hierarchies, polygonal meshes, material properties, and animation data within an IFF (Interchange File Format) wrapper. Historically, these files were opened and edited using Imagine 3D. The primary disadvantage of the .tddd format is its absolute obsolescence. It is a proprietary, legacy format tied to 1990s hardware and software ecosystems. Because it relies on old Amiga-centric IFF chunk structures, modern 3D software, web browsers, and standard operating systems cannot read it natively. Users holding old assets or recovering retro 3D models are forced to convert them just to view the geometry. The best conversion targets are universal 3D formats like OBJ, STL, or 3DS. Converting to OBJ preserves the basic vertex and polygon mesh structure, though proprietary procedural textures, lighting setups, or complex animation paths from Imagine 3D will likely be lost. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because its internal structure is highly specialized. Often only the original, obsolete software can properly read or export the full data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TDDD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

FAQ

If you want to convert TDDD file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Imagine 3D or similar software from the "3D Model Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to TDDD, try Imagine 3D or another comparable tool in the "3D Model Storage" category.

The TDDD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TDDD converter.
