About SXIE files

The .sxie file format is a ShareX Image Effect File utilized primarily by ShareX, a highly popular open-source screen capture and productivity tool for Windows. These files function as configuration containers that store custom image effects, such as drop shadows, borders, watermarks, torn edges, and color adjustments applied automatically to screenshots.

A major disadvantage of the .sxie format is that it frequently confuses users who expect it to be a standard image. It is a strictly proprietary settings file that contains no raster or vector image data; it only holds the mathematical rules and parameters for applying visual effects. Because it lacks actual pixels, standard online image converters will completely fail to process it, leaving users frustrated with error messages.

If you need to view or extract the parameters without installing the original software, the best conversion targets are plain text formats like TXT or JSON, as the internal structure is essentially serialized text data. This file format is highly difficult to "convert" in the traditional visual sense, and only ShareX can properly apply these effects to an actual picture. However, you can still use our platform as a workaround. If our analysis detects the supported underlying text or JSON structure, viewing or conversion to a readable format is absolutely possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SXIE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The SXIE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SXIE converter.
