About SVC files

The .svc file extension primarily represents a WCF (Windows Communication Foundation) Web Service File utilized by the Microsoft .NET Framework. Hosted on Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services), these text files declare service configurations and point to compiled binary code for executing web services. Alternatively, .svc files are used as encrypted CodeMeter license update files by Wibu-Systems, proprietary audio recordings for Samsung Voice Memos, or saved game data for classic titles like Championship Manager.

The primary disadvantage of the .svc format is its extreme context dependency. A WCF .svc file is a mere text script; without the underlying .DLL files and a live IIS server, it serves no functional purpose. Furthermore, because the .svc extension is heavily shared among wildly different formats - ranging from plain text and encrypted license keys to binary audio files - identifying the true file type is highly confusing for users. Standard online converters fail completely because they expect a unified file structure.

Converting a WCF .svc file typically involves saving the script as a TXT or XML document for code review. If you possess a legacy Samsung voice memo, you may need to convert it to an MP3 or WAV file for modern playback. However, you cannot convert a text-based WCF script into an audio file, nor can you decrypt a CodeMeter license without the original hardware token. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SVC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SVG, XLSX, APPLICATION, MZZ and WSDL files.

The SVC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SVC converter.
