About STXT files

The .STXT file is a proprietary, encrypted text document. It is part of the Oracle Information Rights Management (IRM) system, originally developed by SealedMedia. Organizations use this format to apply strict Digital Rights Management (DRM) to confidential plain text documents. Users must authenticate with a centralized server via the Oracle IRM Desktop client to view the contents. The major disadvantage of an .STXT file is its extreme DRM restriction. You cannot open it in standard text editors or web browsers. If the remote authentication server is offline, or if your user permissions expire, the text becomes permanently locked. The proprietary encryption makes offline recovery impossible without the correct decryption keys. If your permissions allow, the best workaround is to unseal the document and save it to a standard .TXT, .DOCX, or .PDF file. Converting to .TXT removes the restrictive DRM layer and ensures long-term access, although it strips the tracking telemetry that the sender relies on. This file format is exceptionally difficult to convert. Standard online converters always fail to process .STXT files because the core content is mathematically scrambled. Only the original Oracle software can securely authenticate the user and properly export the raw text data.
