About SNU files

The .SNU file extension is primarily used for Game Audio Stream files found in video games published by Electronic Arts, most notably the Dead Space franchise. These files are typically managed and encoded using FMOD Designer, a standard audio middleware platform for dynamic game sounds. A secondary use for .SNU files (roughly 6% of cases) is as Reinforcement Steel Schedules within the Allplan CAD software by Nemetschek.

Users often attempt to convert .SNU files to extract game soundtracks, sound effects, or voice lines. However, the format is highly restrictive. It is a proprietary container, tightly packed into game archives, and completely unsupported by standard media players, audio editors, or web browsers. You cannot just double-click a .SNU file to listen to it.

For audio extraction, specialized game modding tools or community libraries like vgmstream are usually required to transcode the streams into standard target formats like WAV, MP3, or OGG. Be aware that complex multi-channel spatial audio data or looping points may be lost or flattened during this process. For the CAD schedule variant, exporting directly from Allplan to PDF or CSV is the only reliable way to share the data with contractors.

Because .SNU is a closed, proprietary format in both of its use cases, standard online converters will fail to process it. Often, only the original software or specialized decoders can properly read or export the data. Just drag and drop your .SNU file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our analyzer will inspect the file's internal structure and extract raw text headers. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SNU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BSC, WEM and WMA files.

The SNU Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SNU converter.
