Convert SK1 to another file type
To convert SK1 vector graphics to another format, you need sK1 or other Vector Image software.
Convert a file to SK1
To convert other file formats to the "Open-Source Vector Graphic" file type, you need software like sK1 or a similar tool.
About SK1 files
The .SK1 file format is an open-source vector graphic format primarily designed for prepress illustration. Created as an alternative to proprietary formats, it includes advanced color management features, particularly for CMYK color spaces, which are essential for professional printing tasks.
These files were exclusively generated and managed by sK1, an open-source illustration program native to Linux environments. The project also maintained the UniConvertor engine, a universal vector graphics translator.
Today, the .SK1 format presents significant disadvantages for modern workflows. The original sK1 software is largely abandoned, and the format is highly niche. Mainstream design applications like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW do not support it natively. It is not supported by web browsers, and sharing an .SK1 file with a print shop or a client usually guarantees they will be unable to open it.
To make the data usable, you must convert the file. The best target formats are SVG for web use, PDF for document sharing and printing, or EPS for editing in other vector graphics software. Be aware that complex CMYK color profiles or specific prepress metadata might shift or be lost when translating to simpler RGB-based formats like SVG.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert online because standard converters lack the specialized sk1libs required to parse the proprietary data structures. Often, only the original, discontinued Linux software can properly read or export the vector data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SK1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The SK1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SK1 converter.
