About SITES2 files
A .sites2 file is a proprietary website project package created by Apple iWeb, an obsolete WYSIWYG website builder that was part of the Apple iLife suite.
These files contain the entire structure of a website, including page layouts, text, metadata, and embedded media assets. Because Apple discontinued iWeb in 2011, .sites2 files are now severely outdated. They require a legacy Mac running an older version of macOS (Mojave 10.14 or earlier) to open natively. Modern web browsers and standard text editors cannot read them directly. The format is heavily restricted to the Apple ecosystem, making cross-platform migration incredibly difficult.
To recover your website data, you need to extract the contents to standard formats like HTML, JPG, or PNG. However, converting .sites2 files is notoriously difficult. The file is actually a macOS package - a hidden directory structure masquerading as a single file - containing complex XML and SQLite database records. Standard online converters fail because they expect a flat file rather than a folder hierarchy. While a perfect 1:1 conversion to a modern CMS like WordPress is technically impossible, our system can inspect the .sites2 package, identify the embedded media, and allow you to extract the raw text and images so you can rebuild your site.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SITES2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
