About SC2MOD files

A .SC2MOD file is a proprietary modification archive used by StarCraft II, a real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Mapmakers create these files using the StarCraft II Galaxy Editor to store shared custom assets - such as 3D models (M3), textures (DDS), audio files (OGG), and XML-based data strings. By isolating these modifications into a standalone .SC2MOD package, multiple custom maps can reference the same assets without duplicating file size.

The main disadvantage of the .SC2MOD format is its proprietary, closed nature. Under the hood, these files are formatted as either legacy MoPaQ (MPQ) archives or the newer Content Addressable Storage Container (CASC) system. Because of this, standard archive utilities like WinRAR or 7-Zip cannot open or extract them. They are entirely unsupported by web browsers and operating system file explorers. Furthermore, these archives often exceed hundreds of megabytes and require the heavy, gigabyte-sized StarCraft II client to open natively.

Standard online converters routinely fail to process .SC2MOD files because they lack the specific decryption and parsing logic required for Blizzard's game data structures. You cannot convert an entire modification package into a single document or image. Our platform can inspect the internal container structure, identify the embedded game assets, and potentially extract the underlying text or media files for further conversion to standard formats like JPG or PDF.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SC2MOD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
