The .RSW file extension serves two distinct, highly proprietary functions. Primarily, it operates as a GIS raster map file utilized by Panorama GIS to store massive, georeferenced spatial datasets. Alternatively, it functions as a World File within the classic MMORPG Ragnarok Online by Gravity Corp, dictating the coordinates of water, terrain, and 3D objects in a game map.
Both variants present severe conversion challenges. The GIS .RSW files are often gigabytes in size, heavily compressed, and rely on closed-source algorithms requiring expensive enterprise software to render or export. They are practically useless outside of the Russian-developed Panorama ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Ragnarok .RSW format is a legacy game asset that relies on accompanying .GND (ground) and RSM (model) files to function. It lacks native support in modern 3D editors like Blender or Unity.
Converting GIS .RSW files to standard formats like TIFF or PNG is ideal for cross-platform viewing, but standard online converters consistently fail because they lack the proprietary decoding libraries. For the game variant, extracting to OBJ or FBX requires specialized, often abandoned, community scripts.
