About RSW files

The .rsw extension covers two distinct, incompatible formats that often confuse users. The most common (34%) is a GIS Raster Map used by KB Panorama software. These are high-performance internal raster files used for displaying satellite imagery and topographic maps in the Russian-developed Panorama GIS ecosystem. They are proprietary, meaning you cannot open them in standard viewers like Adobe Photoshop or even open-source GIS tools like QGIS without specific plugins. Users often need to convert these to GeoTIFF or ECW to use the map data in other systems.

The second common type (25%) is a World Resource file from the MMORPG Ragnarok Online. This is a binary layout file that defines a game map's scene - including lighting, sound sources, and references to 3D models (RSM) and ground data (GND). A critical catch for users is that the .rsw file alone does not contain the visual map; it only contains instructions on where to place objects. To view or edit these, you need the BrowEdit map editor or a custom Blender importer plugin. For archiving or sharing, these are typically converted to OBJ (for 3D use) or rendered to JPG (for 2D previews).

Convert.Guru analyzes your RSW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RW6, EQT and MPCB files.

The RSW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RSW converter.
