Extract text from Rillsoft and WinJoe projects (RPJ)
To convert RPJ projects to another format, you need Rillsoft Project or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Application Project File" file type, you need software like Rillsoft Project or a similar tool.
The .rpj file extension is a fragmented, proprietary format primarily used to store project workspaces for niche software. Its two most common applications are Microscope image analysis projects created by Future WinJoe (also known as SpaceWinJoe) and project management schedule files generated by Rillsoft Project. A smaller percentage of these files are used by Rogic for robotics programming projects or by Uni Comp as Real Pac Batch Job files.
Opening these files requires the exact software that created them. For example, Rillsoft Project uses a UTF-16 (LE) text encoding for its schedules, but the structure is entirely undocumented. Future WinJoe files are highly dependent on the local microscope hardware and original file paths. This creates severe vendor lock-in. A schedule saved as .rpj cannot be opened natively in Microsoft Project, and robotics instructions cannot be read by web browsers.
To share the data trapped inside a .rpj file, you must open it in the original software and export it to a standardized format. For project management, export to XML or CSV to retain tabular data, or PDF for sharing read-only timelines. For microscope analysis, export the actual visual data to JPG or PNG.
Because .rpj is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. The files often contain workspace settings rather than the raw media or standard documents you actually want. However, you can still use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround.
