A .RODX file is a genealogical database created by the freeware program Nethar Ancestry (formerly Rodokmen). It is designed to store offline family trees, logging genealogical lines, birth dates, anniversaries, photos, and birthplaces locally on a user's hard drive.
The .RODX format is heavily disadvantaged today because it is a proprietary, isolated file type tied to obsolete Windows software. It is completely inaccessible natively on Mac, mobile devices, or modern web browsers. Furthermore, cloud genealogy platforms like Ancestry.com or MyHeritage cannot import this closed format natively, leaving your family history trapped in an outdated ecosystem.
To safeguard your data, the best target format is GEDCOM (.GED), which serves as the universal standard for genealogical data exchange. If a full structural conversion is impossible, extracting the raw text to CSV or XML will at least preserve your lineage records, though embedded media files will be lost.
This file format is extremely difficult to open or convert because of its closed, legacy database structure. Standard online converters fail to process it, and often only the original Nethar software can properly read or export the data.
